Perched above the Nadia valley, Tineo has unsurpassed views, or so we thought. This morning the path going out of town climbed for a couple of hours until the view included Tineo itself, now an unremarkable jumble of buildings in a verdant expanse.
Except for 4 km of walking along a twelve inch shoulder on an asphalt highway, it was a great day. Laurel’s foot pain has subsided and she now glides along the trails, noting the flowers and talking to the birds, goats, cows, and sometimes even me!
It was also a short day. The 17 kms barely gave us the appetite to finish the menu del dia at El Barín de Borres, but we did our best and took away the left-overs for supper.
The exchange rate sucks! Not the “Euro to Canadian dollar” rate; I mean our “past efforts to present results” rate. Eight years ago we walked the Camino Frances averaging twenty-five km per day, and two years ago we tackled the Apennines of the Via Francigena and averaged 162 flights of stairs per day. Now we struggle with lesser amounts. Of course, age isn’t fair. However, tomorrow we will attempt 25 km+ with altitude gains similar go the Apennines. Hopefully, the market shifts and we get an exchange rate on par for one day!

Wahoo, Laurel found a carrier! I long to be on the trail with the two of you but I am afraid my exchange rate would be WAY further from par than the two of you.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe you guys have done ten days already! Isn’t it amazing how those days and kilometres start to pile up behind you? We’ve only been home por a week and we’re already starting to o dream about our next walk….perhaps in your footsteps. For example…we’ve been looking at lighter packs online! (To lower the exchange rate)
ReplyDeletePlease forgive typos!
DeleteYes, the kms sure do start to accumulate!
DeleteWe searched for smaller backpacks this winter but didn’t find what we wanted, so opted to stay with our old ones … sigh. They aren’t packed quite full, but still should have been lighter for this stage of the game …
