Mud - Ascent - Fog - Windmills - Descent - Border - Coffee - Final Ascent - Octopus
That was the sequence of the day. We were the second ones out the Albergue door and were on the path at 6:35 a.m., our earliest start yet. Though it was just getting light under overcast sky, the route was easy to follow along muddy farm trails (could have used my Baker Lake rubber boots!). Now came an ascent, going up through fog toward a line of windmills above us that appeared and disappeared spookily in the shifting fog. We walked along the ridge near the windmills’ bases and got great views over the countryside far below. Upon descending, we crossed the border from Asturias into Galicia, where the sun shone and the marker indicated 166.098 kms to Santiago. We celebrated with a much needed coffee and sandwich at the well placed bar there. It was about 10 kms, flattish with a final ascent, to arrive at A Fonsagrada which is built on top of a big hill. The town, though not on the coast, is renowned for serving octopus (pulpo), so we had to have a plate (as did all the other pilgrims).

Love the photos and the scenery. I walked 13 kilometres today and almost half of it in my yard! Nice day here.
